Hi, I’m Suzie. Nice to meet you.

Ah, so you want to know a little more, do you? That’s great. I’m more than happy to share my story.

My name is Suzie – or you can call me Suki – I’m open to either. Before I got married, I was Suzie Kidger (now I’m Kidger-Clarke, how fancy eh), so when I first started blogging, I used this combination to form Suki. It just kinda stuck. My Nan used to email me when I was at university, calling me Suki, and I guess, I’ve formed a bond with it ever since.

Where did I begin?

I always loved English at school and when I was maybe 16/17 I started an online music magazine, reviewing local bands. Living on the Isle of Wight, there wasn’t much coverage for music nearby and I wanted to change that.

It was great, I met a lot of people, got free tickets to shows and it just kinda grew. I started working with a couple music-lovers/writers/photographers, giving free tickets to writers to review big artists and events such as Bastille, Adele, Bestival, James Morrison, George Ezra and so many more. It was pretty cool, to say the least.

Er, then what?

I studied Magazine Journalism at Southampton Solent University before completing a Masters in Creative Advertising, writing freelance alongside my studies. Projects varied, as they always do in freelance work, writing for anything from West Weddings magazine, through to Britannia Paintball.

But how did I get here?

I’ve worked both in-house and for marketing agencies, which has given me a unique outlook on all the work that I do. Having that understanding of how agencies work has urged me to ensure I’m always 100% transparent and fair.

I always knew I wanted to work for myself. I wanted to be my own boss, manage my own clients and complete the work and not have to go through an account manager. When you work with Suki Marketing, you work with just one person, so you’ll never be passed from pillar to post.

In 2019, life got a little chaotic. I moved back to the Isle of Wight to be closer to my family, somehow injuring my back in the process. Sadly, this ongoing issue restricted me from ‘normal’ jobs. I couldn’t expect to work somewhere and have to get up every 5-10 minutes to move around.

So, that’s pretty much it. I thought ‘screw it’, I’ll finally do what I’ve always wanted to do and work for myself. My freelance clients continued working with me, I’ve gained new work along the way since starting Instagram and things can only get better.

And that’s how Suki Marketing formed a small collective of creatives.
