About the client

A growing Brixham holiday lettings business ready for a proper online home

My Brixham Holiday Lets have quickly become one of the leading holiday accommodation providers in Brixham, offering visitors a handpicked collection of properties in the heart of this much-loved Devon fishing town. With a variety of cottages, houses and self-catering apartments available, the business had strong foundations — a loyal repeat customer base, great properties and a genuine passion for Brixham.

Having worked with owner Stephen King previously, we were delighted to be brought on board for this new project. The brief was clear: build a website that matched the quality of the properties on offer, integrated properly with their Supercontrol booking management system, and made it as easy as possible for guests to find and book their perfect Brixham getaway.

The challenge

Building a website that worked hard

The challenge with My Brixham Holiday wasn't just about making something that looked good. It was about building a website that could genuinely do the job — handling real bookings, managing availability across multiple properties, and presenting everything in a way that felt inviting, trustworthy and easy to navigate for guests who just wanted to book a great holiday.

When we first started working together, both the branding and messaging were in early stages. The website needed to project a friendly, welcoming tone of voice while also functioning as a fully operational booking platform. On top of that, the audience for a Brixham holiday lettings business browses predominantly on mobile — so performance, speed and mobile usability weren't optional extras. They were the whole point.

The integration with Supercontrol — a specialist property management and booking system widely used in the holiday lettings industry — added a technical dimension that required careful implementation to ensure a smooth, reliable experience for both guests and the management team behind the scenes.

Our strategy

Guest experience first, everything else built around it

We approached this project from the perspective of the guest. What does someone planning a Brixham holiday actually need from a website? They need to find the right property quickly, check availability easily, understand what's included, and complete a booking without friction. Every design and technical decision we made was evaluated against that standard.

Working closely with Stephen and his team, we developed a brand voice that felt genuinely warm and welcoming — the kind of tone that makes someone feel like they're booking with a real person who cares about their stay, rather than a faceless platform. That voice was carried through every piece of copy and reflected in the design choices we made.

The Supercontrol integration was implemented from day one — not bolted on afterwards. This meant the booking flow, property search and availability calendar were all designed as part of the core user journey rather than treated as a technical afterthought.

After the first phase went live, we continued to refine the experience based on real user behaviour. We identified aspects of the booking process that were causing hesitation — particularly around search flexibility — and expanded the search filters to include pet-friendly options, date flexibility and other criteria that Brixham holiday guests commonly use.

What we tackled together

Challenge

Integrating a specialist booking system without compromising UX

Supercontrol is a powerful property management and booking platform, but embedding it into a custom-designed website without the booking flow feeling clunky or disconnected required careful planning and close collaboration with the platform's integration options.
vs
Solution

Native Supercontrol integration built into the core design

We integrated Supercontrol from the very beginning of the build — designing the booking flow, availability calendar and property search as part of the core user journey. The result was a seamless experience where guests could search, check availability and book without ever feeling like they'd left the My Brixham Holiday website.
Challenge

Designing for a predominantly mobile audience

The majority of holiday searchers browse on mobile — often on their phones while commuting, relaxing or in the early stages of planning a trip. A website that wasn't fast and easy to use on a small screen would lose bookings before they even started.
vs
Solution

Mobile-first design and performance optimisation

We designed the entire website with mobile as the primary experience, not an afterthought. Speed was optimised throughout — clean, efficient code, compressed images and a stripped-back architecture that kept load times fast even on slower mobile connections. The result was a site that felt effortless to use on any device.
Challenge

Refining the search and booking process after launch

After the initial site went live, user behaviour revealed that the search function, while functional, could be improved to better reflect how guests actually searched for properties — particularly around flexible dates and pet-friendly requirements.
vs
Solution

Iterative post-launch UX improvements

We monitored how visitors were using the site after launch and implemented targeted improvements to the search functionality — expanding filters to include pet-friendly options, greater date flexibility and additional search parameters that Brixham guests commonly needed. These changes reduced friction in the booking journey and helped more visitors find the right property faster.

The results

A website that works as hard as the business

My Brixham Holiday now has a fully operational, guest-friendly website that reflects the quality of its properties and the warmth of the brand. The Supercontrol integration works seamlessly, the mobile experience is smooth and fast, and the iterative UX improvements have made the booking journey as frictionless as possible.

Key takeaways

What this project taught us

Every project teaches us something. Here’s what the My Brixham Holiday partnership reinforced about what makes web design and SEO work in the long run.

my brixham holiday holiday lets website design suki marketing

Design for the real user journey, not the ideal one

Guests booking holiday accommodation have specific needs — flexible search, clear availability, fast mobile performance. Building the website around how people actually behave, rather than how you'd like them to, produces a far better result than designing in the abstract.

Integration should be invisible

The best booking integrations are the ones guests don't notice. When Supercontrol works as a seamless part of the website rather than a visible third-party widget, the booking experience feels cohesive, trustworthy and smooth — which directly affects conversion.

Launch is the beginning, not the end

The most valuable improvements to My Brixham Holiday's booking journey came after launch, from real user behaviour data. Building in a post-launch review and refinement process is as important as getting the initial build right.
